Eli Reed sounds like he's beamed in from an old Otis Redding or Don Covay 45. Reed offers audiences a muscular R&B voice, a fantastic backing band and songs so strong that they deserve to be sung by his '60s heroes. There isn't a misstep here; tunes like the title track, "Just Like Me" and the low-key ballad "Pick Your Battles" don't only sound right -- they feel right, too. If you prefer blood, sweat and honest emotion over "airbrushed and Auto-Tuned," then this is the album for you.
